Everyone is welcome to come and join the FoxTrail family this year with our 5km running series. Following the continued success of last year’s series we are  adding another race for the 2019/20 season! That’s a total of FIVE exciting 5km races spread across the winter. FoxTrail 5km is for all abilities, from club runners to complete running novices. If you’ve never felt confident to get off the roads and explore the countryside then this is just the ticket. What’s more, our 5km races are suitable for runners aged 13 years and up, so get the family involved for some competition this winter!

What is trail running?

What is this ‘trail running’ that everyone’s harking on about?! To cut a long muddy story short, it’s basically the more adventurous, more exciting and more breath-taking (in more ways than one) counterpart to road running. Say goodbye to the achy concrete knees and the same old mundane routes around the block, and let us open your eyes to the possibilities your countryside has to offer! FoxTrail 5km allows you to do this on safe, marshalled and route-marked courses We guarantee that once you’ve tested the trails you’ll never want to go back to the boring run round the block.

Expect to get wet and muddy, and most importantly, expect to have a brilliant time doing it!

Need a training plan….Look no further!

If this is your first ever 5km race or perhaps you have done a bit of running in the past and fancy getting back into it, our running guru John from www.silentrunningscotland.com has pulled together the perfect plan to get you back on track or the trail in this case!

Race Two Overview

Race 2 Route

5K Race Two, Night Route –

Race Route; TBC

Following the success of last year’s Night Time 5km we are hosting another night time 5km! Get ready to run with the foxes in the woods surrounding Foxlake in the dead of night. As part of East Lothian’s Saltire Week, we will be illuminating our very own woodland area along with having a party tent as the start/finish line. You can expect; music, lights, mud, and perhaps even our infamous water splash on the 5km route.

As this is a night time event, a head torch is mandatory. See ‘Kit’ below for more information. Runners must keep their wits about them for a sure footed race in the pitch black woods.

The question is…have you got what it takes to run with the foxes…?

As this is a night time event a good running/walking style head torch is mandatory. Please ensure you carry spare batteries/fully charge the head torch prior to the race. We also advise you train with the head torch to become accustomed to the focus point of the light, the weight/feel of it, and predicting the ground surface. Running with a head torch is a skill that is best mastered before the race!

Trail running shoes/running shoes with a good tread are advised to cope with the uneven ground.

As this event is part of East Lothian’s Saltire week it is Saltire themed, that means all things tartan and blue and white are welcomed!
