24 Nov Race Ready
Ok the first race is nearly upon us. What is your race day preparation?
A good idea is to start a bit earlier than race day.
When do you start to think about the kit you will need?
Is your favourite race kit in the wash basket? Are your shoes still soaking from the last training run? What socks will be best? Will you need a waterproof?
Well some people just get on with it and grab the stuff they think they will need on the way out the door and that is fine; if you are not a stresser. Others like to make sure they have packed their bag several times before they go to sleep the night before. (and then not sleep because they are worried they have forgotten something)
Wherever you are on that scale having a quick check list is a helpful thing. Here are some obvious options to have on the list:
Off road race shoes: the course is wet and muddy (which we provide as a service J)
Comfy socks that can cope with getting wet
Shorts and or running tights
Race vest/top
T shirt/base layer (long and short sleeved options)
Waterproof top
Hat and gloves
Pins or race belt
Snack food and drink
Sunnies (you never know)
Warm gear for before and after
Bag to leave change of kit in
Change of shoes and socks
Podium kit (you never know)
A big smile
Race day:
Get up earlier than you think you need to so that you can eat a pre-race breakfast
Get to Foxlake on time, remember the race is sold out and there will be a full car park, car share if you can.
Register and get your number early.
Warm up gently and be ready to go at start time
Don’t be your 10 year old self and sprint for the first 100 metres, the race lasts a bit longer.
Remember this is not the world championships or the Olympic games it is meant to be fun.
Most important point have a great time.
