19 Jan Race 4 ft. our biggest ever WRS attendance!
Well, it is the middle of January and we couldn’t really have asked for better conditions for stop 4 of our 2018/19 Foxtrail series… It stayed dry for the whole time (!!!), conditions under foot were good and the wind was kept to a minimum. Exactly what we had ordered. Today saw our BIGGEST EVER attendance of runners in a full race series event with a cracking 235 on the start line.
The 5K kicked off first at the usual time of 9am. Paul Barry stormed across the line with a time of 20:45.9 to take the winning spot. First female was Corrie Roberts coming in at 3rd place overall with a cracking time of 22:16.3.
15 minutes later and our 16K was off! The 5K and 16K shared the trails for the first 3.5Km or so until the 5K group headed back through snake wood towards site and the 16K swung a right to head along a stretch of the John Muir Way before heading along that calf burning beach for 3.5K to the ‘bridge to nowhere’. With 6K to go they swung around and made their way back towards site with some classic twisty trails on route.
Andrew Brown came striding over the finish line a time of 1:02.45 to take first place in the 16K. It was Nicola Duncan who took first place in the women’s category with a cracking time of 1:05:43.9.
Thank you to all who made today such a great event. Next stop… Harvest Moon Half Marathon!
